INDUSTRY-RECOGNIZED CREDENTIALS

Quality hospitality education, training and professional certification for careers in the hotel and lodging industry are delivered by the American Hotel and Lodging Education Institute (EI). EI certifies and validates competencies in conjunction with academia and industry experts for over 20 positions in the hospitality industry ranging from the front-line to manager-level. These certificationsare applicable in all facets of the industry, including hotels, food & beverage establishments, spas, hospitality training, hospitality education and hotel supply.

In order to become certified by EI, individuals must meet the knowledge and experience requirements and successfully complete a certification examination. Certification examinations are available through computerized adaptive testing or traditional print testing.

In the restaurant industry, the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) leads training in culinary, management, food safety and employability skills. Individuals gain fundamental restaurant industry knowledge, skills, abilities and behaviors through the ProStart program, a two-year academic and experiential-based program that covers both industry-specific and transferable skills that form the foundation of a range of restaurant and foodservice careers. Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to receive the ProStart National Certificate of Achievement, which combines theory, performance and work-based measures of success. Certificate achievers pass two national exams, demonstrate mastery of foundational skills and work 400 mentored hours. ProStart curriculum is delivered in high schools, and students who receive the certificate are eligible for NRAEF scholarship opportunities and course credits in hospitality and culinary arts programs at colleges and universities.
